Abstract

This article explores the innovative potential of digital-based Japanese language learning in supporting the development of intercultural competence in the era of globalization. Using a qualitative approach that applies digital-based multimodal analysis, this study deeply examines the experiences and strategies of teachers and learners in integrating cultural aspects through various digital media. The novelty of this study lies in the comprehensive multimodal analysis, which focuses not only on text, but also on how various modes of digital communication (video, images, online interactions) contribute to cultural understanding. The results show that the diversification of the use of digital platforms enriches the learning process and facilitates authentic understanding of Japanese culture. Digital media has been shown to act as a cultural bridge, increasing cultural sensitivity, and encouraging cross-cultural communication through interaction with native speakers. However, this study also identifies challenges related to technology access and limitations in conveying cultural nuances in depth. These findings provide important contributions to the development of a foreign language curriculum based on culture and technology, especially in the context of intercultural multimodal analysis, and offer strategic insights for teachers to optimize digital media in inclusive and contextual cross-cultural learning.
